CALL TO PHOTO ARTISTS

CARIBBEAN-AMERICAN: A PHOTO ART PROJECT

Island SPACE Call to Photo Arts Caribbean American

Island SPACE, a Caribbean-American cultural nonprofit, is inviting photographers of every background and from any location to submit original photographs that celebrate Caribbean cultures, peoples and traditions in South Florida. South Florida’s Caribbean communities include people of Spanish, French, English and Dutch Caribbean descent, and representations of all are welcome. Images may depict any typical or characteristic element of life for the related community, and should evoke emotion in the viewer. Examples of photography subjects could include but should not be limited to:

  1. A Catholic, Santeria, Rasta, or Muslim worship event.
  2. A block party or festival – Kompa Fest, Carnival, Calle Ocho, Jerk Festival.
  3. Dance presentations – Cuban ballet, dancehall party, soca event.
  4. Street / gourmet food – Paella at a food festival, plated entree picked up by a waiter at a fine restaurant, someone enjoying freshly stripped sugar cane or a mango on the side of the road.
  5. A game of dominos, kalooki, ludo, jacks, marbles.
  6. A game of football (soccer), cricket, baseball, netball.

Selected photographs will be included in a traveling exhibition, and may be considered for inclusion in a coffee table book.
