THROUGH THE CARIBBEAN LENS

AN IPC VISUAL LABS WORKSHOP SERIES AND PHOTO ART EXHIBITION

Island SPACE Caribbean Museum PhotoCarl Juste Workshop Square

Deadline for Submission:
Thursday, July 22, 2021

Island SPACE and IPC Visual Lab are inviting aspiring photographers in Broward County with a love of Caribbean culture to a two-day workshop series. Underwritten by the Broward Cultural Division, the workshops will be hosted at Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, and led by award winning photographers C.W. Griffin and Carl Juste.

Twelve students will be selected based on a review of their amateur portfolio, availability and willingness to complete all classes and course work. There will be two classes — Saturday, July 24 & Saturday, August 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The first component will focus on technique, equipment and artistry. Between sessions, students must capture images of Caribbean American life in their environments executing their new skill sets. The second workshop will include a review the submitted course work, feedback and a selection of the best pieces to be exhibited in the Island SPACE Caribbean Museum gallery from August 19th- 29th.

Students will be encouraged to invite family and friends to view their displayed work.

APPLY FOR WORKSHOP

GUIDELINES

Submit up to ten (10) digital samples of your work along with your contact information and a bit about yourself via islandspacefl.org/calltoartists. Notifications of acceptance will be sent via email. Island SPACE will cover the cost of the workshops for the selected participants, but participants are responsible for covering the cost of their selected exhibition works — up to $175 per canvas print. Should any works be sold, photographers will receive 60% of the sale price.

Students should have their own photography equipment and a basic understanding of its functions. Students should also have access to or connection to Caribbean settings in South Florida.

South Florida’s Caribbean communities include people of Spanish, French, English and Dutch Caribbean descent, and representations of all are welcome for the final work product.
