As CEO of Axum Management Capabilities, Inc, a South Florida-based global business development firm, Andrea JohnBaptiste has been leading a team of Knowledge Brokers in managing projects for businesses, nonprofits and communities, since 2006. Her background in planning, systems design, public relations, training, evaluation and organizational development, allows her to lend her skills to an array of projects to help businesses, nongovernmental organizations and communities grow.
JohnBaptiste has provided one-on-one business consulting and project support to a diverse range of clientele including global organizations such as: Pearson, Digicel and Siemens Industries. Infrastructure development, business and strategic planning, monitoring and evaluations, public relations and marketing, are a sample of the services provided to small, mid-sized and large businesses. Grant writing, board development, policy and procedure development are some of the consultative services provided to non-profit and quazi-governmental organizations such as the Children’s Services Council of Broward, Broward County Minority Builders Coalition and Broward County Public Schools. With her leadership, the Axum team has served clients in the US, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Belize.
Prior to entrepreneurship, Mrs. JohnBaptiste served in several leadership roles, primarily within the public sector. She has led teams for Broward Regional Health Planning Council, the YMCA of Broward County, the Brain Injury Association of Florida and ARC Broward. She holds a master’s in organizational management and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Phoenix and Ithaca College, respectively.
Since 2018, she has had the privilege of sharing her knowledge of and experiences in business with undergraduate students as adjunct faculty member at Atlantis University School of Business, in Miami. JohnBaptiste is also a known for her radio talk shows- the JB Bizline and Synergy. The JB Bizline aired in the South Florida markets, 2014 through 2016 and Synergy now airs weekly in Atlanta on 99.1FM. In bringing business information to her community, JohnBaptiste has engaged and interviewed national business experts, best-selling authors and international artistes.
JohnBaptiste is a past chair of the Broward County Commission on the Status of Women. Other civic activities include serving on the board of directors for nonprofits such as Tomorrow’s Rainbow, the Broward Healthy Start Coalition and American Civil Liberties Union, Broward County Chapter and Island SPACE.
She has been nominated for several honors and awards. She was announced as Broward County’s Rising Star by the Broward County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2019, and was the 2014 nominee for the National Women’s History Project: Women of Courage, Women of Character, recognized as a Trailblazer and Pioneer in entrepreneurship, leadership and fundraising. JohnBaptiste was among nine female entrepreneurs recognized by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in 2017 as a trailblazer in business and labor. She was crowned Miss Jamaica Florida, 1993, and has remained involved in the pageant and other activities within the Diaspora.
Her personal interests include entrepreneurship, photography and the arts. She and husband John are the proud parents of three daughters: Mweza (22), Mhina (20), Mhalaika (12).
